Funding Opportunities
Funds are available for seed grants to support interdisciplinary collaborations for mathematical biology research. Projects that build new collaborations and promote work that is competitive for external support will be prioritized.
Purpose and Details:
- To promote interdisciplinary collaborations and research in math biology at VT
- To support projects which aim to garner future external funding for VT faculty
- Each award is capped at $10K
- Awarded grants will be publicized on the VT-CMB website.
- Deadline: January 17, 2025
Funds are available for assisting with bringing seminar speakers to Virginia Tech during AY 2024-2025. Speakers may be scheduled for any of the existing seminar series. We will support speakers whose talks are relevant to math biology research. Funds will be distributed twice throughout the academic year.
Purpose and Details:
- Enhance the ability to bring high-profile speakers in math biology to campus
- Help offset the cost of travel, accommodation, or meals during a visit
- Awards are capped at $500 and must be co-sponsored by a seminar series.
- Seminar speakers will be publicized on the VT-CMB website.
- Deadline: December 15, 2024
Funds are available for assisting with costs associated with open access publication of math biology-related research during AY 2024-2025. Core and affiliated members of VT-CMB may apply for these funds on a rolling basis as articles are accepted for publication. We expect to support the publication of ten papers in Fall 2024, and an additional ten in Spring 2025 depending on the center budget.
Purpose and Details:
- To support the publication of math biology related research in open access formats
- Funds are capped at $500 per publication.
- Funds are awarded on a first come, first served basis
- Rolling deadline
Travel funds are available for trainees (students and postdocs) who work with VT-CMB faculty or are themselves VT-CMB affiliated. The award will support travel to conferences and meetings to present math biology related work, and travel to workshops to receive training relevant to math biology research. Funds will be distributed three times throughout the 2024-2025 academic year.
Purpose and Details:
- Enhance the professional development and exposure of interdisciplinary trainees by presenting at high impact conferences
- Enhance the visibility of VT-CMB by showcasing the center’s research
- Deadline: December 15, 2024
